Suresh Raina Applauds Sanju Samson's Century as a Game-Changer for CSK
Raina's Praise for Samson's Milestone
Former Indian cricketer and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) icon Suresh Raina has commended wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson for achieving his first century in the CSK colors. Raina believes this significant innings could greatly enhance both Samson's self-assurance and the overall batting lineup of the team in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
A Weight Lifted Off Samson's Shoulders
During a discussion on Star Sports, Raina expressed that this century would alleviate the pressure on Samson, particularly after joining a franchise known for its high expectations and rich history in the lucrative league. He remarked, "Sanju has finally lifted the weight off his shoulders with this hundred. Transitioning to a new franchise and delivering immediate results is challenging, especially given the expectations surrounding him. Being part of the most successful team in IPL history comes with its own set of performance demands."
Enhancing Team Dynamics
Raina emphasized the strategic benefit of having Samson as an opener for CSK, noting that his position bolsters the middle order and overall batting versatility. He stated, "Samson's role at the top significantly enhances CSK's middle order. With a solid start, players like Shivam Dube and Ayush Mhatre can play more freely."
CSK's First Victory of the Season
CSK secured their inaugural win of the season, ending a six-match home losing streak. Batting first against Delhi Capitals (DC), Samson scored an impressive 115 not out off 56 balls, supported by Ayush Mhatre's 59 runs off 36 balls, leading CSK to a total of 212/2 in 20 overs. In response, DC's Pathum Nissanka contributed 41 runs, and Tristan Stubbs made a quick 60 off 30 balls, but the team fell short as Overton (4 wickets for 18 runs) and Kamboj (3 wickets for 35 runs) consistently took wickets. Currently, CSK sits in ninth place with one win and three losses, while DC ranks fourth with two wins and two losses.
