Supreme Court Decision on Voter List Review

Gaurav Bhatia, the national spokesperson for the BJP, stated that the Supreme Court has not imposed a halt on the Special Intensive Review (SIR) and this serves as a stern warning to opposition parties like the RJD and Congress, which lack faith in constitutional institutions such as the Election Commission of India. The court has permitted the continuation of the process. He emphasized that the court clarified that this procedure falls under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission to ensure greater accountability and transparency.

In a jab at the opposition, Bhatia expressed hope that leaders like Tejashwi Yadav and Rahul Gandhi would gain wisdom, engage in self-reflection, and respect the ruling. He noted that every citizen and the BJP welcomes the Supreme Court's decision and is committed to ensuring that democracy thrives in India. Additionally, BJP spokesperson Dr. Guru Prakash Paswan remarked that questions aimed at misleading the public should cease following the Supreme Court's ruling. He pointed out that for the past month, opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, have been questioning the Election Commission, which he finds perplexing. The Supreme Court has clearly stated that this is a routine matter and should not be politicized unnecessarily.

The Supreme Court has instructed the Election Commission to consider accepting Aadhaar, voter ID cards, and ration cards as valid documents during the ongoing Special Intensive Review (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar. With state assembly elections scheduled for later this year, Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Joymalya Bagchi referred to the SIR as a 'constitutional obligation' after hearing arguments from senior advocate Rakesh Dwivedi representing the Election Commission, allowing the SIR to proceed in Bihar, which has over seven crore voters.
