BJP's Response to Supreme Court Ruling
The National General Secretary of the BJP, Tarun Chugh, expressed his approval on Friday regarding the Supreme Court's decision to issue notices to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and state police officials in connection with an Enforcement Directorate (ED) case. Chugh characterized this judicial action as a "victory for truth" and a significant rebuke to Banerjee's alleged corrupt government, which he claims protects criminal elements.

In an interview with a news agency, Chugh stated, "The Supreme Court's reprimand in the ED case signifies a triumph for truth and serves as a sharp slap to Mamata Banerjee's oppressive and corrupt administration, which provides shelter to mafias. The Mamata government is openly interfering with the functioning of constitutional institutions, pushing law and order to the brink, and spreading chaos. No matter how much pressure Mamata Banerjee exerts, the investigations into looting and corruption will not cease, and action will be taken against the guilty parties."

Chugh's remarks followed the Supreme Court's issuance of notices to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and senior police officials in response to petitions filed by the ED. The ED's petitions allege that state officials interfered during a search operation at the premises of the political consulting firm I-PAC under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The bench, comprising Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Attorney General Messiah, noted that leaving unresolved issues tied to broader constitutional questions could lead to chaos in states governed by various political parties.
The court remarked, "To ensure adherence to the rule of law in the country and to allow each branch to operate independently, it is essential to investigate this matter so that criminals do not find protection under the law enforcement agencies of any particular state. We believe that this involves significant questions that, if left unresolved, could exacerbate the situation, leading to chaos in some state given the governance by different parties across various states."
