Supreme Court to Review Tamil Nadu's Challenge on Thirupparankundram Hill Lamp Lighting
Supreme Court Takes Up Tamil Nadu's Appeal
New Delhi: On Monday, the Supreme Court agreed to consider a petition from the Tamil Nadu government that contests a ruling from the Madras High Court regarding the lighting of a ceremonial lamp on Thirupparankundram hill.
A bench comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and Vipul M Pancholi issued a notice to the original petitioners, including Rama Ravikumar, but did not grant a stay on the high court's decision.
The Supreme Court has linked Tamil Nadu's appeal with an ongoing case and has postponed further proceedings.
The state government, led by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, is challenging a January 6 ruling from the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court, which upheld a previous order from December 1, 2025, mandating the ceremonial lamp's lighting during the festival.
