The Supreme Court is set to review a petition challenging the NEET-UG 2026 re-test decision in July. This follows the cancellation of the May exam due to a paper leak, with the CBI currently investigating the matter. The plea seeks to implement advanced technology for future exams and calls for an independent committee to assess the NTA's operations. Supreme Court to Address NEET-UG 2026 Re-Test Challenge

New Delhi: The Supreme Court announced on Wednesday that a bench led by Justice P S Narasimha will review a petition contesting the decision to hold a re-test for NEET-UG 2026 in July.

On May 12, the National Testing Agency (NTA) canceled the NEET-UG exam conducted on May 3 due to allegations of a paper leak.

Currently, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing the incident, and a re-test is set for June 21.

During a hearing on Wednesday, a plea was presented to annul the decision to re-administer the NEET-UG 2026 exam before a bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice V Mohana.

The Chief Justice indicated that the case would be taken up by Justice Narasimha's bench in July when the court resumes its regular schedule after a period of limited operations.

Justice Narasimha's bench is already reviewing other petitions related to NEET-UG.

The new plea requests that the government implement advanced technology for secure digital examinations and evaluations, including encrypted question delivery, biometric verification, AI monitoring, and a robust computer-based testing infrastructure for future national exams.

Additionally, it calls for the establishment of an independent expert committee to assess the NTA's structural, institutional, and operational shortcomings.

The plea aims to invalidate the decision to re-conduct NEET-UG 2026.

As a temporary measure, the petitioners have asked the Supreme Court to suspend the re-test decision until the case is resolved.

While addressing a series of petitions concerning NEET-UG 2026 on May 29, the Supreme Court emphasized that genuine accountability is essential to resolve the ongoing issues surrounding the medical entrance examination.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta assured the court that the government is taking the concerns of students seriously, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally overseeing the situation to ensure no oversights occur.

Mehta also mentioned that new protocols have been established for the upcoming NEET-UG re-test on June 21.
