The Supreme Court has announced that it will address the issue of stray dog management regulations set by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on January 7. Petitioners have expressed concerns that these regulations may lead to the removal of stray dogs from the streets without providing them shelter. Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta made this statement after senior advocate Kapil Sibal pointed out that the case, which was supposed to be heard by a three-judge bench, has been canceled. Sibal requested an earlier hearing date, highlighting that the MCD has implemented rules that are contradictory. He warned that the corporation might enforce these rules in December, potentially leading to the removal of dogs that lack shelter.

Court's Stance on Humanity

During the proceedings, the Supreme Court made strong remarks regarding humanitarian concerns. When it was stated that certain MCD regulations are resulting in inhumane treatment of dogs, the court responded by indicating that a video would be shown at the next hearing to question the essence of humanity.

The case is being heard by Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal noted that the special three-judge bench scheduled for Thursday did not convene. Justice Vikram Nath confirmed that the next hearing would take place on January 7. Sibal expressed concern that the MCD's new regulations, which contradict legal provisions, would be enforced in December, leading to the removal of stray dogs. When the bench mentioned it would consider these issues on January 7, Sibal feared the situation might change by then. Justice Vikram Nath reassured him, stating they would deliberate on the matter. Subsequently, Sibal urged for the case to be heard on Friday, to which Justice Sandeep Mehta responded that a video would be presented at the next hearing to explore the concept of humanity.
