Supreme Court Takes Action Against Kerala Congress Over Controversial Post Targeting CJI Surya Kant
Supreme Court Responds to Contempt Petition
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has initiated a petition following a complaint that calls for contempt proceedings against the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) due to a social media post aimed at Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant.
As per the Supreme Court's official website, a complaint submitted by advocate Vineet Jindal on October 13 was officially registered as a writ petition on October 30.
The complaint also requested that authorities investigate whether a political rally and slogan-shouting event that occurred on the Supreme Court grounds on the evening of October 12, 2026, involving Rahul Gandhi and other political figures, was conducted without proper authorization and whether it obstructed the movement of advocates, litigants, judicial officers, or court personnel.
A post targeting the Chief Justice from the official Congress Keralam account on 'X' gained significant attention on October 12, leading to widespread criticism on social media before it was deleted. The party later took action against the individual responsible for the post.
In a statement, KPCC president Sunny Joseph confirmed that the individual who posted the contentious message against the Chief Justice had been removed from their position.
Joseph emphasized that the post was made without the knowledge, consent, or consultation of the KPCC leadership.
He also clarified that the Congress party holds no disagreement regarding the judiciary's impartiality.
