Supreme Court's Ruling on Voter Lists

The Supreme Court has granted permission for the Election Commission to continue the SIR process for voter lists in Bihar, sparking ongoing debates. BJP MP Manan Kumar Mishra stated, "The Supreme Court recognized that the procedure adopted by the Election Commission is in the interest of democracy and the people of Bihar. The decision regarding other documents pertains to consideration rather than inclusion." He highlighted several reasons for the Election Commission's rejection of these documents in the northeastern region of the state. In the Kishanganj area, there are millions of Bangladeshi infiltrators, and when citizenship proof was required, 250,000 citizenship applications were submitted in this region. Mishra welcomed the Supreme Court's decision.

Details on Acceptable Documents

He further explained, "For the voter list process, 11 types of documents are acceptable, including matriculation certificates, residency proofs, pension documents, and bank statements. Aadhaar is not a proof of citizenship, and fake ration cards can be easily issued. There are no issues for the general public; previously, there were 789 million voters, and 66.16% of them have already submitted their enumeration forms."

Response to Opposition Statements

In response to the opposition's remarks, he noted, "The Supreme Court has asked the Election Commission to consider these documents and explain why they were not accepted. If they are genuine, they will be accepted. This is not just a victory for the opposition but for the Election Commission and the people of Bihar."
