Supreme Court Seeks Response from Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge on Opposition March
Supreme Court's Inquiry into Opposition Protest
New Delhi. The Supreme Court has requested responses from Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and party MP Rahul Gandhi regarding their involvement in an opposition march against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. This protest saw a significant turnout, and reports indicate that a pregnant journalist was injured during the event.
The bench, led by Chief Justice Suryakant, has scheduled the next hearing for November 23 and has also sought a response from the central government. The petition was filed by a group of lawyers, calling for clear guidelines to regulate processions, protests, and gatherings around the Supreme Court premises. During the hearing, a senior lawyer representing the petitioners claimed that the march on October 12 led to a large crowd gathering in the court area, raising serious security concerns.
In response, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, assured the court that they would submit a detailed response soon. The petition also names the central government, the Delhi Police Commissioner, the Supreme Court registry, and other political leaders as respondents. It emphasizes that the Supreme Court is not merely a building but a constitutional guarantee of impartial and independent justice, making the maintenance of security and decorum around it crucial.
