Supreme Court Postpones Hearing on Protests and Transport Disruptions Ahead of October 10 Agitations
Hearing Delayed Due to Justice's Health
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing regarding the protests, metro station closures, and train service disruptions planned for October 10, which are aimed at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. This decision was made due to the health issues of Justice V Mohana.
Originally, a bench consisting of Chief Justice (CJI) Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana was set to address several petitions on Tuesday.
Despite his condition, Justice Mohana attended the court proceedings.
CJI Surya Kant informed the lawyers present that Justice Mohana was unwell but still made an effort to participate.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta requested the bench to postpone the hearing, emphasizing the importance of considering health matters. Other senior advocates, including Gopal Sankaranarayanan, supported this request for deferment.
Mehta also mentioned that the Centre had until Tuesday to respond to a plea alleging contempt for not adhering to the Supreme Court's directive to avoid completely halting metro and train services before the upcoming protests.
"The affidavit is prepared. I would like to include additional information to enhance its comprehensiveness," Mehta stated.
The bench agreed to extend the deadline for submitting the affidavit and instructed that it be shared with the counsel representing the petitioners.
