Supreme Court's Ruling Against Samay Raina

The Supreme Court has imposed a fine of ₹10 lakh on comedian Samay Raina. The court found that he allegedly provided false statements during proceedings related to the controversy surrounding 'India's Got Latent' and failed to comply with previous court directives. Mohana instructed Raina to deposit the amount within two weeks, warning of strict action if he fails to do so.

While issuing the order, the bench remarked that Raina misled the court. This issue arose during hearings of petitions filed by content creators Ranveer Allahbadia and Ashish Chanchlani, as well as the 'Cure SMA Foundation'. These petitions were submitted following comments made by Raina in the first season of his show 'India's Got Latent'. During the hearing, senior advocate Aparajita Singh informed the court that despite assurances, Raina allegedly did not reach out to the 'Cure SMA Foundation' or individuals affected by Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).

Singh stated that while Raina continues to perform, he has not contacted the SMA Foundation or those suffering from SMA, raising concerns about his status as a youth icon. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the government, also expressed worries regarding Raina's conduct. Referring to Raina's recent show, Mehta noted that it appeared Raina was mocking the ongoing legal proceedings.

Mehta informed the court that Raina recently launched a new show. He mentioned that Raina is now doing something different that he did not do in the previous series, such as hanging lemons and chilies. Although he did not name anyone, the implication was clear. The Solicitor General stated that he initially decided not to raise this issue, but upon learning that Raina had not complied with the court's directives regarding the SMA Foundation, he felt compelled to address it.
