Meeting Overview with Amit Shah

On Wednesday, NCP (SP) Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule shared insights regarding a meeting she attended with Union Minister Amit Shah and other opposition party members. Reports indicate that Amit Shah aimed to explore pathways for passing a bill in Parliament and initiated discussions on a 'practical formula' related to the bill with key opposition parties.

Sule mentioned that she, along with Lok Sabha MP and group leader Arvind Sawant and MIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, were summoned to Delhi for this meeting. During the session, BJP MP and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju provided them with details about the bill.

Proposals and Concerns Raised

Supriya Sule revealed that Amit Shah proposed increasing the existing Lok Sabha seats of the respective states by up to 50 percent instead of adjusting them based on population. He also noted that he had held separate discussions regarding the delimitation bill with Congress, the Samajwadi Party, and DMK, which yielded varied opinions.

The NCP (SP) MP expressed opposition to increasing the number of seats based on population, arguing that it would be unjust to southern states. The final decision on supporting the delimitation bill will be made after discussions with members of the INDIA alliance.

Request for Written Copy of the Bill

Furthermore, she emphasized the need for a written copy of the delimitation bill to formulate an official stance. Sule stated, "We are not against any bill as we are policymakers, but such policies must be fair and acceptable to all." She added that until they receive the written document detailing the exact formula for increasing Lok Sabha seats, they will refrain from providing an official response.

Public Interest and Political Meetings

Sule also mentioned that if a decision is in the public's interest, they would not oppose it. She denied any meetings with her party leaders, including Jayant Patil, Prakash Patel, and Sunil Tatkare, at Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's official residence 'Varsha' in South Mumbai.
