Supreme Court's Ruling on Electoral Roll Revision

New Delhi: On Monday, the Supreme Court clarified that it has not made any decisions regarding the new Form 6 while addressing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.

Form 6 serves as the application for individuals seeking to be added to the electoral roll.

This clarification was made by a bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant, alongside Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, during the hearing of a petition related to the SIR.

The petitioner's lawyer contended that the Election Commission claimed that the Supreme Court had sanctioned Form 6.

Justice Bagchi remarked, "There has been no adjudication on the new Form 6," emphasizing that the matter concerning the SIR in Bihar did not include discussions about the new Form 6.

In a separate hearing on October 5, the Supreme Court reiterated that it had not endorsed any changes to Form 6 utilized by the Election Commission during the SIR of electoral rolls across various states.

A press release from the Election Commission on September 26 suggested that the Supreme Court had validated the Form 6 declaration in its May 2026 ruling regarding the Bihar SIR.
