Supreme Court Bar Association Demands Inquiry into Police Violence Against Students

SCBA Calls for Accountability Following Police Action

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) expressed its disapproval of the police's treatment of students and legal professionals during a recent protest, demanding a thorough and timely investigation into the events.

Led by president Vikas Singh, the SCBA's resolution highlighted that the police's actions resulted in injuries to numerous students and legal representatives, including its own members.

In a statement from SCBA secretary Pragya Baghel, the organization condemned the 'excessive and disproportionate force' used against peaceful demonstrators, labeling it as alarming and unacceptable in a democratic framework.

The bar association urged relevant authorities to promptly initiate an unbiased inquiry into the incident, pinpoint those accountable for the alleged misuse of force, and take legal action as necessary.

Additionally, they called for adequate medical care and support for all affected students and legal professionals, while emphasizing the need for measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The SCBA reaffirmed its solidarity with the injured parties and its dedication to upholding constitutional rights, human dignity, and the rule of law.

Earlier this week, a large group of students attempted to march towards Parliament, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan due to concerns over the NEET paper leak and other exam-related irregularities. Their efforts were met with police resistance involving tear gas and batons.
