On Thursday, NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule expressed her gratitude towards prominent leaders such as Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Uddhav Thackeray, and Mallikarjun Kharge for their support of Sharad Pawar's nomination for the Rajya Sabha. This decision reflects the unity among the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition partners. Sule thanked these leaders, including Sanjay Raut and Aditya Thackeray, for standing by the party and endorsing the coalition's decision.
Acknowledgment of Support
Sule conveyed to reporters her heartfelt appreciation for Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Uddhav Thackeray, Sanjay Raut, Aditya Thackeray, and Mallikarjun Kharge, along with every Congress leader who supported them, and the senior Shiv Sena leaders they collaborated with. She expressed her gratitude for the decision made by the Maha Vikas Aghadi to nominate Sharad Pawar, emphasizing the importance of their collective efforts over six decades. Based on the current legislative numbers in the Maharashtra Assembly, the ruling Maha Yuti coalition is well-positioned to secure victory in the six seats available. The opposition MVA coalition, which includes Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar), requires 36 first-preference votes to claim the seventh and final seat.
Congress's Commitment to Support
Earlier, on March 4, Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar announced that the party would support Sharad Pawar in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections following a high-level call. He noted that while Congress initially claimed this seat, they decided to support Pawar in coordination with NCP and in adherence to the principles of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, showcasing unity among coalition partners ahead of significant elections.
Strategic Decision by the Coalition
Wadettiwar further explained to journalists that their party had a strong claim to the Rajya Sabha seat as a national party. However, several leaders from Sharad Pawar's faction reached out to them, including discussions with Uddhav Thackeray. He highlighted that Sharad Pawar is the most senior among them, and they are committed to following the principles of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). He confirmed that their high command has decided to support Pawar, and they received communication that Mallikarjun Kharge has also decided to back him.
