Kapur held the position of chairman at Sona Comstar and was a significant figure in the automotive sector. He also served as the Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for the Northern Region, overseeing operations in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and three Union Territories.
Initially, he was married to designer Nandita Mahtani, but their marriage ended after two years. In 2003, he married Karisma Kapoor, with whom he shares two children. Their divorce occurred in 2016, yet they maintained a cooperative parenting relationship.
After parting ways with Karisma, he married model Priya Sachdev, and the couple welcomed a son shortly after their wedding.
