Sunetra Pawar's Nomination for Baramati

On April 6, Sunetra Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, submitted her nomination for the Baramati Assembly by-election, advocating for an uncontested election. Representing the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Pawar will contest the by-election in alliance with the BJP. After filing her nomination, she addressed the media, stating her efforts to persuade Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to allow for an uncontested election, implying that Congress candidate Akash Vijayrao More should withdraw his nomination.

Efforts for Uncontested Election

Pawar mentioned that both she and Praful Patel are attempting to reach out to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to request an uncontested election. She expressed that this is the most challenging election of her life, emphasizing that such a situation should not arise for anyone. She noted that this election is not just hers but represents all the people of Baramati. Praful Patel, the NCP's working president, supported her appeal, stating that he had sent a message to Kharge's assistant regarding this matter.

Support from Other Leaders

Patel added that they have been trying to communicate with leaders from all parties regarding the Baramati elections. He mentioned that he has been attempting to speak with Congress President Kharge for the past three days. Although they have not yet connected, he has conveyed his message through Kharge's personal assistant. He urged the Congress party to support these elections. Maharashtra ministers Aditi Sunil Tatkare, Chhagan Bhujbal, and Chandrashekhar Bawankule also backed the demand for an uncontested by-election in Baramati.

Tatkare's Nomination and Election Context

Tatkare confirmed that she has filed her nomination for the Baramati by-election, which is taking place following Ajit Pawar's departure. She stated that they had never considered the Baramati elections without him, given his role as the state's Deputy Chief Minister. There is a collective request from everyone to have this election go uncontested. Bhujbal remarked that all parties are in support of her candidacy, and discussions with the Congress party will take place. Bawankule commented that the people of Maharashtra are eager to see the role Congress will play, urging them to consider the public's perspective, warning that it could be their greatest defeat.
