Summer vacations are highly anticipated by children, especially as a respite from the intense heat. The scorching temperatures are increasingly becoming a concern in North India, with meteorological forecasts predicting a further rise in temperatures. The upcoming days are expected to bring even more extreme heat, making schoolchildren eagerly await their summer holidays.
Severe Heatwave Conditions in North-Central India
Recently, the extreme heat and heatwaves in North-Central India have left residents reeling. In several areas, temperatures have soared beyond 45 degrees Celsius, placing many Indian cities among the hottest in the world. Fortunately, light rainfall in some regions has provided a bit of relief.
Forecast for Heat and Heatwaves
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that severe heat conditions are expected in Eastern and Western Rajasthan, as well as in Uttar Pradesh. In Western Madhya Pradesh, heatwave conditions are anticipated until May 17, while Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi will experience similar conditions from May 17 to May 19. Additionally, parts of Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Vidarbha, and some areas of Central Maharashtra and Marathwada will also face heat until May 19. This situation will provide students with a much-needed break during their summer vacations.
Summer Vacation Dates for UP Schools
In exciting news for students in Uttar Pradesh, summer vacations are set to commence soon. A notification from the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Council in Prayagraj has confirmed that summer holidays for all government and aided schools will begin on May 20, 2026. Schools in Noida and Ghaziabad will also follow this schedule.
Duration of School Closures in UP
This year, schools in Uttar Pradesh will remain closed for a total of 27 days. According to Surendra Kumar Tiwari, the Secretary of Basic Education in UP, the summer break will last from May 20 until June 15, 2026. However, students in grades 9, 10, and 12 may be called back for extra classes shortly after May 20, with prior notice provided. In Delhi, students in these grades are expected to attend extra classes until May 23, while summer vacations for other classes began on May 11, with schools reopening on July 1, 2026.
