Sumit Antil Sets New World Record in Javelin at Indian Open Championships

Historic Achievement at Indian Open Para Athletics Championships

On Wednesday, Sumit Antil, a celebrated para javelin thrower and gold medalist at both the Olympics and World Championships, shattered his own world record in the men's javelin F64 category during the Indian Open Para Athletics Championships held in Bengaluru.

According to a release from the Sports Authority of India (SAI), "Sumit Antil has once again made history by achieving a remarkable throw of 74.82m in the Men's Javelin F64 category at the Indian Open. This impressive performance surpassed his previous world record of 73.29m, which he established at the 2022 Asian Para Games."

Antil's Remarkable Athletic Journey

Sumit Antil stands out as one of India's premier para-athletes, having clinched consecutive gold medals at the Paralympics in both 2020 and 2024. Additionally, he is a three-time gold medalist at the World Para Athletics Championships.

At last year's World Para Athletics Championship in Delhi, Antil delivered an unforgettable performance in front of his home audience, achieving a meet record throw of 71.37m on his fifth attempt, securing his third gold medal at the event. His three gold medals at the World Para Athletics Championships are the highest for any Indian athlete.
