New Delhi: As the festive season approaches, consumers are experiencing relief due to a decrease in sugar prices. In recent days, both retail and wholesale sugar prices have fallen in various regions across the country. This decline is attributed to increased market supply following government interventions aimed at curbing hoarding.
Sugar Prices Reduced by Approximately 4% in a Week
According to available data, the average retail price of sugar has dropped by about 3.85% to ₹62.57 per kilogram over the past week. Wholesale prices have also seen a decline, although variations exist across different cities.
Price Relief from Delhi to Ranchi
Since the beginning of September, a consistent decrease in sugar prices has been observed in several major cities. Retail prices in markets such as Delhi and Ranchi have fallen compared to previous levels. After a significant rise in prices during August, the market is now showing a downward trend.

To manage rising sugar prices, the central government has permitted the . Additionally, to prevent hoarding, the stock limit for sugar traders will be reduced from 4,000 quintals to 2,000 quintals starting September 15.
The government has also instructed sugar mills to ensure adequate supply and maintain reasonable prices during the festive season, as demand for sugar typically increases with the upcoming festivals of Dussehra and Diwali.
Further Price Reductions Expected
According to government sources, there has already been a 20% decrease in ex-mill sugar prices, which is gradually reflecting in the retail market. Consequently, consumers may witness additional price reductions during the festive season.
