Suchika Tariyal Inspires Youth After Historic Bronze Medal Win at Asian Games

Indian mixed martial arts (MMA) competitor Suchika Tariyal has made history by winning a bronze medal at the Asian Games. This achievement marks the first-ever medal for India in MMA at this prestigious event, as she secured third place in the women's traditional 60kg category. Suchika faced Singapore's Teo Hui Hoon in the semifinals, where she was narrowly defeated. Upon her return to Mumbai, she expressed her joy, stating, "It was a wonderful journey. My goal was to win a medal for my country, and I achieved that. It feels amazing; seeing all of you here to welcome me makes me very happy. Everything went really well."

Encouragement for Young Athletes

Suchika took the opportunity to motivate the younger generation, urging them to engage in sports. She highlighted the government's efforts in promoting athletics, saying, "Our government is doing a great job promoting sports. I encourage as many young people as possible to take up a sport; they too can win a medal for the country and bring glory to our nation."

Family Support Through Challenges

Reflecting on her personal journey, Suchika shared that despite facing financial hurdles and not excelling academically, she received unwavering support from her family and later from her husband. She expressed gratitude for their belief in her potential, stating, "My family has always supported me. I was not good at studies so they felt I could do well in sports. They kept supporting, my interest in sport grew. There were some financial challenges, but neither my family nor my husband ever let me feel the burden of that. They believed in me and trusted that I would achieve something, and I have lived up to that trust. That’s what matters most to me."
