A successful training session focused on 'Crop Cutting Experiments' took place at the Deputy Director Agriculture's Office in Palampur, attended by 33 agriculture officers. These experiments play a vital role in estimating crop yields, which are essential for making informed decisions regarding grain imports and exports, as well as for processing claims under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
Dr. Kuldeep Dhiman, the Deputy Director of Agriculture, announced that another training session is scheduled for revenue officers on March 19 at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Dharamshala. He highlighted that both agriculture and revenue officers are responsible for conducting these experiments by visiting farmers' fields and selecting plots through random sampling based on khasra numbers.
For the ongoing Rabi season, a total of 972 crop cutting experiments are planned, with 150 being conducted by agriculture officers and 822 by revenue officers, primarily focusing on wheat and barley crops. Officers utilize a mobile application to take photographs of the chosen fields, delineate a 10m x 2m plot, and perform harvesting and threshing to estimate the yield.
Dr. Dhiman mentioned that the Statistical Office of the Agriculture Directorate will gather data statewide to compute the average wheat yield per tehsil, which will serve as the foundation for farmers' crop insurance claims.
He urged all officers to submit their results promptly to ensure that farmers receive timely benefits. The training was facilitated by Technical Assistant Mamta, with contributions from ARO Manoj Gautam (District Statistics Office) and Mrs. Deepti (NSO Office).
