National Lok Adalat Achieves Significant Settlements

Jorhat, May 9: On Sunday, a National Lok Adalat was held at the District and Sessions Judge Court in Jorhat, where 43 pending cases were successfully resolved, thanks to the efforts of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
The Lok Adalat addressed various unresolved issues, including civil disputes, motor vehicle cases, cheque bounce incidents, and compensation claims, as stated by DLSA Secretary Sagarika Borpujari.
“During the proceedings, we managed to settle 43 court cases amicably. The cases included cheque bounce disputes with banks, claims for motor accident compensation, and other pending legal matters,” Borpujari explained.
Additionally, disputes that had not yet been formally brought to court but remained unresolved were also addressed, promoting out-of-court settlements.
Numerous institutions participated in the settlement process, including State Bank of India, Assam Gramin Vikash Bank, Bandhan Bank, Indian Bank, Axis Bank, Jina Finance, Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL), and BSNL.
According to Borpujari, disputes amounting to nearly Rs 69 lakh have been settled during the Lok Adalat, with expectations for this figure to increase as the process continues.
“Engagement from the public in Lok Adalats is crucial, as traditional court proceedings can be lengthy. Cases resolved through Lok Adalat are settled through mutual agreement, which significantly reduces both time and legal expenses,” she noted.
This initiative once again underscores the effectiveness of Lok Adalats in providing swift and economical dispute resolution, thereby alleviating the pressure on conventional courts.
