Chamba's Zila Parishad Elections Conclude Smoothly

The election for the positions of Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Zila Parishad took place today at Bachat Bhawan, adhering to the Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Rules of 1994.


All 18 members of the Zila Parishad were present for the meeting, which was overseen by Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Mukesh Repswal. Additional Deputy Commissioner Amit Mehra and District Panchayat Officer & Secretary Mahesh Chand Thakur were also in attendance.


Rekha Thakur from the Bayana ward emerged victorious in the Chairperson election, receiving 10 votes, while her opponent Meenakshi Kapoor from Jiyunta ward garnered 8 votes. In the Vice-Chairperson election, Liaqat Ali Khan from Sarol ward won with 10 votes, defeating Sunil Dutt from Ghaira ward, who received 8 votes.


Following the vote counting, Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repswal administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected officials. He conveyed his best wishes and highlighted the crucial role that all Zila Parishad members will play in advancing the development of Chamba district.
