Indore Students Visit Sustainable Development Center
Students from the Vaishnav Institute of Management and Science participated in an educational trip to the ‘Jimmy Magilligan Center for Sustainable Development’ located in Sanawadia village. During this visit, they gained practical insights into environmental conservation, renewable energy, organic farming, and sustainable living.
The center's director, Padma Shri Janak Palta Magilligan, welcomed the students and guided them through the entire biodiversity campus.
Self-Sufficient Campus Powered by Renewable Energy
Throughout the tour, students observed the use of renewable energy sourced from solar and wind power at the center. They were introduced to various initiatives aimed at operating the campus in an environmentally friendly and self-sufficient manner.
Janak Palta Magilligan shared her life journey and long-standing commitment to environmental conservation, emphasizing that the responsibility of preserving natural resources lies not only with institutions or governments but also with individuals who can make small changes in their daily lives.
Emphasis on Energy and Food Conservation
Discussing the growing challenges related to energy and food, Janak Palta Magilligan stressed the importance of conservation. She informed students about renewable energy, solar cookers, alternative biofuels, medicinal plants, organic farming, and community involvement.
She highlighted that the limited availability of natural resources necessitates their prudent use, and reducing food and energy waste plays a crucial role in both environmental protection and building a sustainable economy.
Understanding Zero Waste Management and 'No Shopping' Philosophy
Students learned about the causes of food and energy waste and their environmental impacts. The discussion included the significance of zero waste management and decentralized power generation.
Janak Palta Magilligan also introduced her 'No Shopping' philosophy, which encourages the use of resources as needed and minimizing unnecessary consumption. She emphasized the need for collective efforts towards conserving natural resources for a sustainable future.
