Admiral Tripathi's Diplomatic Mission
In New Delhi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi boarded a Myanmar Navy warship to engage in discussions with high-ranking military officials, focusing on enhancing maritime collaboration during his visit to the neighboring country.
During his time at Myanmar's Naval Training Command, Admiral Tripathi officially presented military equipment, which included a containerized small arms simulator and a rigid inflatable boat, as reported by the Indian Navy.
Kicking off his four-day visit on Saturday, the Admiral aims to strengthen operational cooperation between the two navies and identify new areas for partnership.
He is set to engage in bilateral discussions with Myanmar's armed forces Commander-in-Chief, General Ye Win Oo, Defence Minister General U Htun Aung, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Navy, Admiral Htein Win.
Myanmar holds significant strategic importance for India, sharing a 1,640-kilometer border with several northeastern states, including the conflict-affected regions of Nagaland and Manipur.
The nation is pivotal to India's 'Neighbourhood First', 'Act East', and 'MAHASAGAR' (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) initiatives.
As part of his ongoing visit, Admiral Tripathi boarded the Myanmar Navy's Frigate UMS Kyan Sit Thar (F12) on May 2, as shared by the Indian Navy on social media.
He was ceremonially welcomed aboard by Captain Kyaw Thet Naing, the Fleet Commander, who presented a Guard of Honour.
Additionally, Admiral Tripathi visited the Central Naval Command Headquarters located in Yangon.
He engaged in discussions with Rear Admiral Aung Aung Naing, the Commander of the Central Naval Command, and Rear Admiral Khun Aung Kyaw, the Commander of the Naval Training Command.
Topics covered included enhancing Navy-to-Navy cooperation, strengthening the existing defense partnership, increasing operational engagements, maritime security, and promoting shared objectives for a secure maritime environment.
The discussions also focused on improving training cooperation and exploring future collaboration opportunities, highlighting the commitment to enhancing interoperability and training exchange programs.
The Admiral formally handed over various projects supported by the Government of India, including the containerized small arms simulator and the rigid inflatable boat, aimed at boosting maritime security in the Bay of Bengal region.
The Indian Navy consistently collaborates with the Myanmar Navy through staff talks, training exchanges, and operational interactions, including initiatives like the India-Myanmar Naval Exercise (IMNEX), Indo-Myanmar Coordinated Patrol (IMCOR), and hydrographic surveys.
Myanmar has actively participated in recent events organized by the Indian Navy, such as the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium, MILAN naval exercise, International Fleet Review, and Goa Maritime Conclave.
The visit by the Chief of Naval Staff underscores the enduring friendship between India and Myanmar, founded on mutual respect, trust, and a shared commitment to maritime security and stability in the Indian Ocean Region.
