Vikram Misri's Diplomatic Mission to Kathmandu


Kathmandu: Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has landed in Kathmandu on Sunday, aiming to enhance the diplomatic relations between India and Nepal.


This two-day visit comes at the invitation of his Nepalese counterpart, Amrit Bahadur Rai.


The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu announced his arrival via a post on X, stating, "The visit of Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri signifies the ongoing tradition of high-level exchanges between India and Nepal, reaffirming our commitment to the Neighbourhood First policy."


The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) released a statement on Friday, emphasizing, "India and Nepal enjoy robust and friendly relations, which have progressed significantly in various cooperative areas in recent years. Our relationship with Nepal is a top priority under the Neighbourhood First policy. This visit continues the tradition of high-level exchanges and aims to further strengthen our bilateral ties."


During his stay, both Foreign Secretaries are expected to engage in discussions covering multiple facets of the Nepal-India partnership, focusing on connectivity, development cooperation, and other mutual interests. Misri is also set to meet with other prominent figures in Kathmandu.


Earlier this month, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with a group of young political leaders from Nepal in New Delhi, where they discussed the importance of close cooperation and the deep connections between the two nations.


Jaishankar shared on X, "It was a pleasure to engage with a delegation of young political leaders from Nepal during their visit to India. We discussed our close cooperation and the strong people-to-people ties that bind us."


On July 30, Misri met with a multiparty delegation of Nepalese Members of Parliament, exploring avenues for enhancing the India-Nepal partnership for mutual benefit.


MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal tweeted, "Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri engaged with a multiparty delegation of MPs from Nepal today, discussing opportunities to expand the multifaceted India-Nepal partnership for mutual benefit."


On July 27, the Nepalese Embassy in India welcomed the visiting MPs, highlighting that regular exchanges of visits by leaders, including MPs, will bolster bilateral relations.


The Nepal Embassy in India shared images of the MPs on X, stating, "We are pleased to welcome the visiting delegation of MPs from Nepal and engage with them at the Embassy of Nepal in India today. Regular exchanges of visits by politicians, including MPs, will strengthen the relationship between our two countries."
