India and Africa: A Vision for Agricultural Prosperity


New Delhi, Aug 29: Haryana's Chief Minister Nayab Saini emphasized on Friday that India and Africa are forging a future rooted in mutual trust, technological advancement, inclusivity, and shared prosperity.


During his address at the 20th CII India-Africa Business Conclave, CM Saini articulated that the vision of the state government extends beyond mere production increases.


“Our goal is to transform agriculture into a sustainable and lucrative venture for our citizens,” stated CM Saini.


The Chief Minister noted that Haryana is committed to assisting farmers throughout the entire process, from cultivation to market sales.


In a session titled ‘From Farm to Future: Sharing India’s Experience - The Haryana Story’, he mentioned that the innovative practices and technologies employed in Haryana's agricultural sector could be effectively adapted in Africa.


He highlighted various government initiatives focused on soil health, stubble management, water conservation, agricultural education, and skill enhancement.


Additionally, he referred to the ‘Meri Fasal Mera Byora’ portal, which facilitates farmers in accessing government schemes, marketing their produce, and receiving timely payments.


Leaders from Mauritius and Zimbabwe also emphasized the significance of India's agricultural expertise for African nations.


Mauritius Minister of Commerce John Michael Tzoun Sao Yeung Sik Yuen remarked that India's technological advancements in agriculture, including the use of drones and mobile applications, have revolutionized farming and could greatly benefit African countries.


Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture Vangelis Peter Haritatos highlighted the necessity of sustainable practices to address challenges posed by climate change, population growth, and resource limitations, asserting that collaboration between India and Africa could foster opportunities in production, value addition, finance, and technology.


Industry leaders at the conclave, such as CII President Designate R Mukundan and Sun International Chairman Vikramjit Singh Sahney, shared the sentiment that agriculture could serve as a vital link between India and Africa.


They underscored the importance of investing in post-harvest infrastructure, value chains, youth engagement, and digital technologies to enhance cooperation.


The consensus among speakers was that India's agricultural model could assist Africa in reducing its reliance on imports and realizing its potential as a global food hub.
