Washington, June 27: High-ranking officials from President Donald Trump's administration have laid out an ambitious strategy to enhance the relationship between India and the United States, indicating plans for a Presidential visit to India in the early part of next year.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Ambassador to India Sergio Gor emphasized that the ties between the two nations are stronger than ever, with efforts underway for Trump's visit.
Rubio expressed his eagerness to return to India before the year concludes to finalize arrangements for the Presidential visit in early 2024.
He also conveyed optimism regarding ongoing trade discussions, stating, "We are nearing the completion of a trade agreement, and the outlook is very positive."
Ambassador Gor supported this view, noting that negotiators are now concentrating on finalizing the agreement.
"A few issues remain, primarily concerning the language both parties will endorse. We are confident that we will reach an agreement in the coming weeks or months," he remarked.
Both officials highlighted the significance of the personal rapport between President Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Rubio remarked, "India is a vital partner and ally of the United States, and the bond between the Prime Minister and the President is exceptionally strong, which is crucial for effective diplomacy."
Gor referred to the relationship between the two leaders as "one of the key pillars" of India-US relations.
He praised PM Modi's leadership style, stating, "He is highly dynamic, hands-on, and focused on results."
Gor noted similarities between Modi and Trump, emphasizing their proactive approach to achieving results swiftly.
Rubio and Gor also discussed the expanding scope of bilateral cooperation, stating, "We have numerous aligned interests that we can develop together in areas such as economics, supply chains, critical minerals, energy, security, and freedom of navigation."
Gor highlighted the "limitless potential" of the partnership, pointing to increasing collaboration in technology, defense, pharmaceuticals, and investment.
"Every sector in the United States offers opportunities for collaboration with India, and we can elevate our partnership to new heights," he added. "The potential is indeed limitless."
The officials also noted the growing economic ties, with Gor mentioning that the US Embassy in India has facilitated over a billion dollars in new investments into the United States within a year, while Rubio reiterated India's status as a close ally as Washington prepares for another Quad meeting.
