India and Fiji Discuss Health Collaboration


New Delhi, Dec 18: Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, met with Fiji's Minister of Health and Medical Services, Ratu Atonio Rabici Lalabalavu, in New Delhi on Thursday. The discussions focused on enhancing health and medical cooperation between the two nations.


Margherita expressed his satisfaction on social media, stating, "It was a pleasure to meet Fiji's Minister of Health this morning. We had significant discussions regarding our ongoing health and medical collaboration, which is a vital aspect of the India-Fiji partnership."


On December 15, Suneet Mehta, India's High Commissioner to Fiji, also engaged with Fiji's Minister for Immigration, Viliame B Naupoto. Their talks revolved around mutual interests, including skilled mobility and strengthening people-to-people connections.


The Indian High Commission in Fiji shared on social media, "Veilomani Dosti. High Commissioner Suneet Mehta visited Hon. Viliame B. Naupoto, Minister for Immigration, today. We had fruitful discussions on skilled mobility and enhancing relations between our countries."


Earlier this month, Mehta met with Fiji's Minister for Policing and Communications, Ioane Naivalurua, to discuss ways to bolster bilateral cooperation. He highlighted India's readiness to share its knowledge in digital identity systems, cybersecurity, and innovative public service delivery.


In a statement, the Indian High Commission noted, "High Commissioner Suneet Mehta was pleased to meet Hon. Ioane Naivalurua, Minister for Policing and Communications today. Our discussions focused on enhancing multifaceted cooperation, particularly in digital technology and AI. India is committed to sharing its expertise in these areas, reflecting our broader partnership with Fiji in promoting inclusive governance through technology."


Last month, India sent a shipment of Anti-Retro Viral (ARV) drugs to Fiji to support the country's health initiatives.


The Ministry of External Affairs announced on social media, "A shipment of Anti-Retro Viral (ARV) drugs has been sent to Fiji to aid its health program. India is dedicated to assisting Fiji in its public health efforts and humanitarian needs."
