Unveiling Ceremony of Major Somnath Sharma's Statue

Palampur – In celebration of Independence Day, a newly erected statue honoring India’s first Param Vir Chakra recipient, Shaheed Major Somnath Sharma, was officially unveiled on Friday at the Palampur Municipal Corporation. The event was graced by MLA Ashish Butail and former Chief Minister Shanta Kumar, who both paid their respects by laying floral tributes at the statue.


Radhika Shaunik, the niece of Shaheed Major Somnath Sharma, was also in attendance.


The ceremony saw participation from various dignitaries, including Trilok Chand, a member of the Wool Federation Board of Directors, Palampur Mayor Gopal Nag, Deputy Mayor Rajkumar, council members, SDM Palampur Netra Meti, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Ashish Sharma, Tehsildar Sajan Bagga, Block Development Officer Bhanu Pratap Singh, and Dr. N.K. Kalia, the father of Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra, along with his brother Vaibhav Kalia and other officials and community members.
