On Sunday evening, a stabbing incident at New York City's Penn Station resulted in five individuals being injured. The suspect, a 51-year-old man named Hector Deleon, was apprehended shortly after the event, which took place around 7 PM in the New Jersey Transit boarding area. Reports indicate that the victims, all male and aged between 30 and 60, were likely innocent bystanders caught in the attack. Sources suggest that Deleon may be homeless and had previously faced assault and drug-related charges in New Jersey earlier this year, although specific details about that case remain unclear.

Authorities believe the stabbings were random and executed with a knife. As of now, there has been no update on the condition of the victims. This violent episode occurred just a day before former President Donald Trump is scheduled to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, which is in close proximity to Penn Station.

Commuters expressed their concerns regarding safety following the attack. Sanai Rashid, a 21-year-old, remarked, "I’m not surprised, as Penn Station has a reputation for being unsafe, especially in the evenings, particularly with the recent influx of visitors for the Knicks game and Trump's appearance. It’s been a chaotic summer, and crime rates seem to rise, so I believe more security is needed in Penn Station. It’s truly devastating." Another commuter, Marina Berger, also 21, highlighted the anxiety this incident brings to those traveling alone, especially young women. "It’s alarming to hear, particularly as I will be commuting to the city more frequently. There should definitely be enhanced security measures," she stated.

Emma, a 30-year-old dental hygienist, shared her worries about using public transport with her young son, Leonardo. "It’s frightening and makes you question whether it’s safe to use the subway with children. You often encounter unsettling individuals, but you never expect to be in a situation where something like this occurs," she expressed.
