Ankara, Oct 6: A stabbing incident at a middle school in Istanbul's Basaksehir district resulted in injuries to eight students, according to local news sources.

Initial reports suggest that a confrontation among students at Kayasehir Sheikh Shamil Imam Hatip Middle School escalated for reasons yet to be determined. The injured students were promptly transported to a hospital for medical attention. Emergency services, including police and medical teams, responded swiftly to the scene following the report of the incident, as noted by a prominent Turkish newspaper.

The Governor's Office of Istanbul has initiated an investigation into the matter. Preliminary findings indicate that a female student from a different school entered the premises in a school uniform and began stabbing students at random. Authorities have apprehended the suspected attacker.

Turkey's Health Minister, Kemal Memisoglu, reported that the eight injured students are receiving treatment, with one in critical condition and two others in moderate to severe states. He expressed his hopes for their swift recovery.

"I wish a quick recovery to our students and their families affected by the incident at one of our middle schools in Basaksehir. The treatment of the eight injured individuals — one critically and two moderately to severely injured — is ongoing in our hospitals, and we are closely monitoring their health conditions. I wish them prompt healing," Memisoglu shared on social media.

This incident follows a tragic event in April, where a shooting at a middle school in Kahramanmaras resulted in nine fatalities and 13 injuries, as reported by local media citing the Turkish Interior Minister.

Kahramanmaras’s Governor, Mukerrem Unluer, stated that an eighth-grade student at Ayser Calik Secondary School was responsible for that attack, having brought firearms in a backpack and opened fire indiscriminately in two classrooms. The suspected shooter also lost their life. The Chief Public Prosecutor of Kahramanmaras announced that an investigation into that incident is underway.
