Srinagar Hosts Fit India Cycle Rally to Encourage Fitness Culture

In a bid to promote fitness and public participation, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma participated in a Fit India cycle rally in Srinagar. The event highlighted the importance of a healthy population for national prosperity. Mandaviya announced that cycling events will now take place every Sunday in Srinagar, joining a nationwide initiative that has seen participation from millions. The Fit India Sundays on Cycle program, launched in December 2024, aims to engage citizens across the country in physical activities, fostering a culture of health and fitness.

Fit India Cycle Rally in Srinagar

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, along with Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma, participated in a Fit India cycle rally in Srinagar, aimed at fostering fitness and encouraging public engagement in physical activities.


Advocating for a Healthier Nation

During a press briefing, Mandaviya shared that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports recently held a three-day Chintan Shivir by the scenic Dal Lake, which saw participation from various state ministers. He expressed gratitude for the warm reception from the local populace. The Union Minister emphasized the significance of fitness by mentioning a 'Sunday on Cycle' event that took place at Dal Sarovar on the final day of the gathering. He asserted that a healthy citizenry is crucial for the development of a robust and prosperous nation.


Mandaviya also highlighted that cycling events are being organized every Sunday at over 16,000 locations nationwide as part of the Fit India Movement. He announced that Srinagar has joined this nationwide initiative, with local youth set to engage in weekly cycling activities moving forward. "The Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry organized a three-day Chintan Shivir at Dal Lake in Srinagar. The ministers from various states were warmly welcomed by the Kashmiri people... On the last day, a 'Sunday on Cycle' event was held at Dal Sarovar to promote fitness, emphasizing that a fit citizen is essential for a prosperous nation... As part of this initiative, cycling events are being organized every Sunday at over 16,000 locations across the country. Starting today, young people in Srinagar will also participate in cycling to promote the Fit India movement every Sunday," Mandaviya stated.


Overview of Fit India Sundays on Cycle

For those unfamiliar, Fit India Sundays on Cycle is an initiative organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in partnership with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Indian Rope Skipping Federation, Yogasana Bharat, Raahgiri Foundation, MY Bikes, and MY Bharat. This cycling initiative is conducted simultaneously across all states and union territories, including SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), and Khelo India Centres (KICs).


Launched in December 2024 by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, Fit India Sundays on Cycle has evolved into a significant public movement, with over 28 lakh citizens participating across more than 2.63 lakh locations nationwide since its inception.
