Unbeaten Partnership Sparks Sri Lanka's Recovery

A remarkable partnership of 124 runs between Sonal Dinusha and Niroshan Dickwella rejuvenated Sri Lanka's innings, allowing them to navigate the second session without losing a wicket during the third day of the first Test in Galle against India on Monday.

By the end of the second session, Sri Lanka stood at 215/5, with Dickwella (72*) and Dinusha (62*) still at the crease, trailing India by 248 runs. This duo played a crucial role in stabilizing the innings after the team lost five wickets for under 100 runs.

Starting the second session at 99/5, Dinusha (14*) and Dickwella (8*) were determined to reduce the deficit, which was initially 363 runs.

Dinusha opened the session with a boundary, helping Sri Lanka reach the 100-run mark in just 28.1 overs.

Both players survived several dropped catches and close calls, achieving a 50-run partnership in 80 balls for the sixth wicket.

Dickwella showcased his skills against spin, reaching his 23rd Test fifty in 67 balls, hitting five fours.

Dinusha quickly followed suit, reaching his second Test fifty in 92 balls, including three boundaries against Mohammed Siraj in the 48th over.

The pair celebrated their century partnership in 162 balls, marking a significant comeback for Sri Lanka in the match context.

Dinusha's slog sweep for six over deep mid-wicket against Manav Suthar propelled Sri Lanka past the 200-run mark in 54.1 overs. Their unbeaten 124-run partnership ensured Sri Lanka completed the second session without losing any wickets.

Suthar's Bowling Spell Disrupts Sri Lanka's Top Order

Earlier in the match, spinners made their mark, with Manav Suthar's exceptional bowling spell sending half of the Sri Lankan team back to the pavilion by the end of the first session.

At that point, Sri Lanka was struggling at 99/5, with Dinusha (14*) and Dickwella (8*) still at the crease, trailing India by 363 runs.

India commenced the final day at 460/9, with Prasidh Krishna (1*) and Mohammed Siraj (12*) unbeaten. Sri Lanka's Asitha Fernando struck early, dismissing Prasidh Krishna for just two runs, as India was bowled out for 462.

India's bowling attack started strong, with Nishan Fernando edging a delivery to Devdutt Padikkal in the first slip, resulting in a two-ball duck.

Lahiru Udara displayed aggressive intent against pace, scoring two boundaries in Siraj's sixth over, while Dinesh Chandimal provided stability at the other end.

In the eighth over, spinner Manav Suthar made an impact on his first delivery, dismissing Chandimal for a mere four runs, as the ball brushed the batter's glove and was caught by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. Sri Lanka was then at 27/2.

Despite the early setbacks, Lahiru continued to attack both pace and spin, while Kamindu Mendis also put pressure on Prasidh Krishna. Sri Lanka reached the 50-run mark in 12 overs.

Suthar struck again, taking Lahiru's wicket with a top-edge that was caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal, leaving Sri Lanka at 53/3.

Spin began to dominate as Kamindu fell to a poor shot against Kuldeep Yadav, with Shubman Gill executing a stunning catch at extra cover. Kamindu scored 14 runs off 25 balls, leaving Sri Lanka at 59/4.

Dhananjaya de Silva and Dinusha attempted to rebuild, but Ravindra Jadeja joined the wicket-taking spree, dismissing Dhananjaya for 21 runs off 41 balls, assisted by KL Rahul. Sri Lanka was then at 90/5.

Sri Lanka concluded the first session with half of their team dismissed, with Dinusha and Dickwella remaining unbeaten.
