Sri Lanka Strengthens Test Squad with New Additions Ahead of Crucial Match Against India
New Faces in Sri Lanka's Test Squad
Kamil Mishara and Sahan Arachchige have been included in Sri Lanka's Test team for the upcoming second Test against India in Colombo. This decision comes as the team aims to recover from a significant 165-run loss in the first match held in Galle.
Both players are stepping in as replacements for this critical Test, which is set to commence on August 23. Their selection follows impressive performances in recent matches, with Arachchige standing out as the top run-scorer for his team in the series against India A, while Mishara has shown consistent form in domestic competitions.
Injury Challenges for Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is currently facing a tough situation due to an escalating injury crisis. Head coach Gary Kirsten has confirmed that key players Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, and Pathum Nissanka will not participate in the second Test, raising significant concerns regarding the batting lineup.
Mendis is out due to a severe hamstring injury, Nissanka is recovering from wrist surgery, and Chandimal has been ruled out after sustaining a concussion on the fourth day of the first Test, which requires him to adhere to a mandatory seven-day recovery period.
With these three first-choice batsmen unavailable, it is likely that Kamil Mishara and Sahan Arachchige will be included in the playing eleven as Sri Lanka seeks to secure a vital win to level the two-match series.
