Annamalai Addresses Rumors of Leaving BJP

On Monday, K. Annamalai, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), responded to circulating rumors suggesting he might resign from the party to form a new political entity. Speaking to reporters before heading to New Delhi, the former president of the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit urged the public to be patient, indicating that clarity would emerge in the coming days. Annamalai stated, 'Please wait. We will discuss everything in two days.'

Speculation has been rife that Annamalai could depart from the BJP to establish a new political party. He has also requested a meeting with the national president of the BJP, Nitin Nabin, to discuss his future within the party. Reports suggest that during his visit to New Delhi, he may also meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. According to rumors, Annamalai could unveil his political party on his birthday, June 4. Posters featuring his '2.0 avatar' have appeared in Madurai and Coimbatore, fueling concerns that he may separate from the BJP.

Previously, the former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer openly questioned the central government's three-language policy. His post, in which he appealed to the Ministry of Education to revoke this policy, sparked speculation about his dissatisfaction with the BJP. Notably, Annamalai was the face of the BJP in Tamil Nadu during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, yet despite his vigorous campaigning, the party failed to secure any seats in the parliamentary elections.

It was Annamalai's actions that led to the split between the BJP and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). However, ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the AIADMK rejoined the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), resulting in Annamalai's removal from the position of state BJP chief. Reports indicate that the AIADMK insisted on his removal as a condition for rejoining the NDA. Annamalai also refrained from actively participating in the election campaign and did not contest in the elections where the BJP-AIADMK alliance faced defeat.
