Speculations Rise Over Cabinet Reshuffle as PM Modi Meets President Murmu gyanhigyan

Prime Minister Modi's Meeting with President Murmu

In the midst of intense discussions regarding a potential cabinet reshuffle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday. According to a social media post from the President's office, the meeting took place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, accompanied by several official photographs. With Modi scheduled to visit Seychelles on June 27, speculation has surged that a cabinet reshuffle may occur before his departure. If this happens, it would mark the first significant reshuffle in the Modi 3.0 government.

Resignations and Speculations in the Cabinet

Previously, senior BJP leader from Kerala, George Kurien, resigned from the Union Council of Ministers following the end of his Rajya Sabha term. He held the position of Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying. A statement from the President's office confirmed that his resignation has been accepted. His term as a Rajya Sabha member concluded on June 21. Another council member, Railway Minister Ravneet Singh, also saw his Rajya Sabha term end on the same date, but he has not resigned. Technically, a minister can remain in office for up to six months without being a member of either house.

Recent Appointments and Anticipated Changes

Recently, several central ministers have been assigned significant organizational responsibilities in their home states, further fueling speculation about an impending cabinet reshuffle. BJP National President Nitin Naveen appointed Harsh Malhotra, Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, as the new president of Delhi BJP on May 28. Malhotra also serves as Minister of State for Corporate Affairs, overseeing both departments. Additionally, Finance Minister of State Pankaj Chaudhary was appointed as the new president of the BJP's Uttar Pradesh unit last December.

Pending Organizational Changes in the BJP

However, changes within the organizational structure of the ruling BJP have been long overdue. While Nitin Naveen has been appointed as president, he has yet to form his new team, which is essential according to the BJP's constitution. It is anticipated that the cabinet reshuffle will coincide with changes in the BJP's organizational framework.
