To accommodate cricket enthusiasts traveling for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 final, Western Railway has introduced special train services connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad, as well as Pune to Ahmedabad. The final match is scheduled for Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, featuring India against New Zealand.
India secured its place in the final after a thrilling semifinal against England, which took place on Thursday at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, where they triumphed by seven runs. This victory has led to a significant increase in travel demand as fans flock to Ahmedabad.
Details of the Special Train Services
Vineet Abhishek, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, shared that additional trains have been organized to cater to the heightened demand from cricket fans. These services are designed to ensure fans can reach Ahmedabad in time for the final and return afterward as per the schedule.
"In response to the increased demand from cricket supporters, Western Railway has announced several train services from Mumbai Central to Ahmedabad, Banda Terminus to Ahmedabad, and between Ahmedabad and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, as well as Ahmedabad and Pune. These trains are scheduled to allow fans to depart from Mumbai, enjoy the match, and return home afterward," stated Vineet Abhishek.
Fans Express Gratitude for Special Train Initiative
Sushil Sharma, a cricket fan traveling from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, expressed his appreciation for the government's initiative to run special trains for fans. He stated, "India is the best team, and our batting lineup is strong. I believe India will win the World Cup. I thank the government for this excellent step in providing special trains."
Another fan, Manish Bhatt, remarked, "By winning the match tomorrow, we will show that Narendra Modi Stadium is not an unlucky venue for Team India. It will be a tough match, but I am confident that Team India will emerge victorious. We are grateful to the government for facilitating these special trains."
