Enhanced Train Services for Holiday Travelers

Aizawl, Dec 19: K Vanlalvena, the sole Rajya Sabha representative from Mizoram, announced on Thursday that the Ministry of Railways has initiated special train services between Guwahati and Aizawl to alleviate the significant travel challenges faced by passengers during the Christmas season.

In a media briefing, Vanlalvena explained that these additional train services have been introduced to accommodate the surge of travelers heading to Mizoram and nearby regions for the festive celebrations. The schedule includes a special train departing from Guwahati on Monday, which will return from Aizawl, via Sairang railway station, on Tuesday. Another train will leave Guwahati on Wednesday and return from Aizawl on Thursday, with each train consisting of 14 coaches.

The MP emphasized that these special services would greatly assist passengers traveling from Guwahati, Delhi, and other areas who have struggled to secure confirmed tickets due to a severe shortage of seats on regular trains. Those unable to obtain reservations on standard services can take advantage of the extra Guwahati–Aizawl trains.

Vanlalvena also mentioned his efforts to address this issue in the Rajya Sabha, highlighting the difficulties faced by residents of Mizoram and neighboring Manipur due to the limited seating on trains connecting Aizawl with major cities like Guwahati, Delhi, and Kolkata. He pointed out that this issue becomes particularly pressing during the Christmas season.
