Sourav Ganguly's Stance on Politics and Coaching
Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, who has significantly contributed to the sport, has firmly stated that he has no intentions of entering politics. However, he expressed his willingness to take on the role of coach for Team India. As he approaches his 53rd birthday in July, Ganguly has also served as the director for the IPL team Delhi Capitals from 2018-19 to 2022-24.
In a conversation with a news agency, Ganguly mentioned that he has never contemplated a political career, as he has been occupied with various responsibilities. When asked if he would be interested in coaching the Indian team, he reflected on his journey since retiring from cricket in 2013 and subsequently becoming the president of the BCCI. He noted that while he could have contributed more as a coach, he is open to future possibilities, stating, 'I am only 50, so let’s see what happens next.' He reiterated that he has no plans to pursue a political path.
When questioned about the possibility of joining a political party ahead of the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections, he smiled and replied that he has no interest in such matters. Even when prompted about a potential offer to become the Chief Minister, he reiterated his lack of interest.
Additionally, Ganguly praised the current head coach of Team India, Gautam Gambhir, acknowledging his commendable performance since winning the Champions Trophy in Dubai.
