Sonia Gandhi to Lead Congress Strategy Meeting Ahead of Monsoon Session

Key Meeting to Shape Congress's Approach
Sonia Gandhi, the leader of the Congress parliamentary party, is set to chair a crucial meeting on Tuesday to finalize the party's strategy for the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament.
The session is anticipated to be tumultuous, as the Congress plans to confront the government on various issues. The opposition is likely to express strong objections regarding the Election Commission's initiative for a special intensive revision of the voter list in Bihar.
Additionally, the Congress has been vocal about its demand to discuss the Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor, and subsequent diplomatic activities.
According to party insiders, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, among other leaders, are expected to attend the meeting, which will take place at Sonia Gandhi's residence on 10 Janpath.
The government has announced that the monsoon session will run from July 21 to August 21, extending the duration by a week compared to the original schedule. This extension suggests a significant legislative agenda ahead.
Initially, the session was slated to conclude on August 12, but it has now been prolonged by a week. This extended session coincides with the government's plans to introduce several key bills, including those aimed at facilitating private sector entry into the nuclear energy sector.
The government intends to amend the 'Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act' and the 'Nuclear Energy Act' to implement the central budget's announcement regarding the opening of the nuclear sector to private players.
The opposition is also demanding a debate on Operation Sindoor. Furthermore, they are seeking answers from the government regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's claim of mediating to end military conflict between India and Pakistan, a claim that the government has dismissed.
