Sonia Gandhi's Strong Critique of the Government

On Friday, Sonia Gandhi, the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party, launched a significant critique against the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Amidst protests from students and youth across the nation, she accused the government of responding to the demands for educational reform and accountability with "cowardice and unnecessary cruelty." Gandhi emphasized that instead of recognizing students as the future of the country, the government treats them as adversaries.

In her article titled 'The Decline of the Education System, The Pain of Young India,' published in an English newspaper, she took the central government to task for its handling of the current education system, administrative attitudes, and police actions.

Gandhi reiterated her stance that the government is failing to acknowledge students as the future, instead treating them as enemies of the state. She claimed that students have exposed the falsehoods of the Modi administration regarding education.

She stated that standing with students and safeguarding their future is a moral, political, and constitutional obligation. In her article, she noted, "The student movement is a natural outcome of two interconnected reasons: first, the current education system that breeds despair among youth, and second, the Modi government's persistent arrogance and refusal to ensure accountability or take constructive steps."

Gandhi also condemned the brutality exercised against student protesters by police operating under the direct authority of the Home Minister, calling it a recurring issue for this government. She recalled the violent actions taken by armed police and paramilitary forces during the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens in 2020, as well as the unacceptable abuses faced by female wrestlers in India.
