Sonia Gandhi Condemns Distortion of Nehru's Legacy
The chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, Sonia Gandhi, has strongly criticized efforts to distort and disrespect the legacy of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. She described these actions as a deliberate attempt to rewrite history and undermine the foundations of the nation. Accusing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of tarnishing Nehru's legacy, Gandhi asserted that their goal is to dismantle the social, political, and economic foundations of the country.
During the inauguration of the Nehru Centre India at Jawahar Bhawan in the national capital, she stated that there should be no doubt that the current establishment's primary objective is to defame Jawaharlal Nehru. Their aim is not just to erase him from memory but to actually destroy the social, political, and economic foundations upon which our nation was built. The Congress leader welcomed ongoing analyses of Nehru's contributions but deemed the systematic efforts to defame, distort, and insult him as unacceptable.
She emphasized that the sole purpose of these actions is to diminish not only his persona but also his significant role in India's freedom struggle and his leadership during the early years of an independent nation. Furthermore, she linked these efforts to ideologies that oppose India's freedom movement and constitution, stating that they are driven by radical and brutal communal perspectives.
Gandhi remarked that while analysis is one thing, deliberately misrepresenting what he said, wrote, and did is entirely unacceptable. She questioned the forces behind this project, asserting that they are connected to ideologies that played no role in our freedom struggle or the formation of our constitution.
