A source from the hospital informed that she has been experiencing a persistent cough for some time, particularly exacerbated by pollution in the city, prompting her to seek medical attention periodically. She was admitted on Monday evening.

In recent years, Sonia Gandhi has faced several health challenges. A few months ago, she was hospitalized at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital due to stomach issues. In February, she spent a day in the hospital under the care of a gastroenterology specialist.

Previously, on June 19, she was discharged from the same hospital after treatment for a stomach ailment. The 79-year-old leader was admitted on June 15 due to complaints related to a stomach infection and had been under strict medical supervision for four days.

On June 7, she also visited Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, for a routine health check-up due to minor health concerns, as reported by the principal advisor to the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.

In September 2022, Gandhi traveled to the United States for a postponed medical check-up that had been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, accompanied by her son, Rahul Gandhi.
