Sonam Maskar's Triumph at the Asian Games

Indian shooter Sonam Maskar expressed her joy after clinching a silver medal in the women's 10m air rifle team event during the Asian Games 2026. She credited the support and enthusiasm of the public as a motivating factor for the team's performance.

The shooting team representing India received a warm reception upon their arrival at the New Delhi airport on Friday night.

Sonam, alongside teammates Elavenil Valarivan and Vidarsa Vinod, achieved the silver medal in the women's 10m air rifle team event. Sonam was the top scorer for India in this event, recording 634.1 points, while Elavenil and Vidarsa contributed 633.5 and 630.4 points, respectively, bringing the team's total to 1898.0 points.

Expressing Gratitude for Support

In an interview, Sonam expressed her happiness about winning a medal for the nation. "I am thrilled to see the immense support from the people and their happiness. We are delighted to have brought home a medal," she stated.

Reflecting on the missed opportunity for gold, Sonam mentioned that the team put forth their best effort and remains optimistic about future competitions. "We gave it our all, and we are confident that gold will come our way in the future," she remarked.

Future Aspirations

Looking ahead, Sonam shared her focus on the upcoming World Championship, stating, "My goal is to perform at my best there as well."

She also discussed how winning medals enhances confidence among athletes. "Winning a medal instills confidence in us, motivating us to strive for even better results. The expectations from the public energize us to give our all," she explained.

As of now, India has secured a total of 23 medals at the Asian Games, which includes two gold, nine silver, and twelve bronze medals, with shooting contributing ten of these medals.
