Sohail Tanvir Lauds Kohli and Rohit Sharma's Impact on Indian Cricket
Praise for Indian Batting Legends
Sohail Tanvir, a former fast bowler from Pakistan, has expressed admiration for India's cricket icons, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He believes their extensive experience and contributions to the sport are invaluable assets for Indian cricket.
Kohli, recognized as one of the finest batsmen of his generation, has had an illustrious international career. Meanwhile, Rohit, now 39, continues to play a pivotal role in India's ODI setup. Both players announced their retirement from T20I cricket in June 2024 after winning the ICC T20 World Cup in Barbados, and they concluded their Test careers in May 2025.
Kohli's Remarkable Achievements
In a conversation with a news outlet, Tanvir highlighted Kohli's impressive statistics, stating that they speak volumes about his impact on cricket. He commended Kohli for the joy and excitement he has brought to fans worldwide. "Kohli's achievements are so significant that they require no further explanation. His contributions to cricket extend beyond India, providing countless memorable moments for fans," Tanvir remarked.
Kohli's career statistics include 123 Tests, 317 ODIs, and 125 T20Is, with a total of 9,230 Test runs at an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries. In ODIs, he has scored 15,109 runs at an average of 58.78, with 55 centuries. His T20I record includes 4,188 runs at an average of 48.69.
The Value of Experience
Tanvir expressed his hope that Kohli continues to play for as long as possible, drawing a comparison to Rohit Sharma. He stated, "Having Kohli in the game for an extended period is a tremendous advantage for Indian cricket."
As Rohit approaches the latter stages of his career, concerns have arisen about his ability to compete until the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup, especially regarding age and fitness. However, Tanvir argues that age should not be seen negatively, as experienced players can offer immense value if they maintain their fitness and performance.
He emphasized that age can be an asset, stating, "If you stay fit and perform well, age can actually be a double advantage. Many view age negatively, but I see it as a significant positive for any team."
Rohit's Recent Form
Tanvir acknowledged Rohit's recent performances, noting his scores of 92 and 101 against the West Indies, along with a 32 in Thiruvananthapuram during a three-match series. Prior to this, Rohit had an outstanding 138 against England at Lord's earlier this year.
He concluded by stating that maintaining fitness and form is crucial for Rohit. "If Rohit can keep up his fitness and performance, it would be a true blessing for Indian cricket to have both Kohli and Sharma playing together for as long as possible," Tanvir added.
