A glimpse of the State Level Half Marathon in Dimapur


Dimapur, Oct 6: The Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima hosted the State Level Half Marathon on Monday, themed ‘SPANDAN’, aimed at promoting social unity, grassroots sports, and youth empowerment.


This event was organized by the 78 Battalion of the CRPF (Sechü-Zubza) in partnership with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Nagaland government.


Rupin Sharma, the Director General of Police for Nagaland, graced the occasion as the chief guest. He urged the SAI to identify promising talents in long-distance and middle-distance running, expressing hope that selected athletes would receive sponsorship for advanced training and coaching to compete internationally.


The DGP expressed optimism that such events would become a regular occurrence, providing a valuable platform for the youth in the region.


In his welcoming remarks, Commandant of the 78 Bn CRPF, Deven Bhosle, emphasized that the Half Marathon transcended mere competition for medals; it represented a collective effort towards fostering a healthier and more united society.


“Every stride taken today symbolizes the resilience, ambition, and true sportsmanship that embodies the spirit of Nagaland,” Bhosle remarked.


Approximately 3,000 participants from various parts of the state took part in the event, competing in three distinct age categories, with cash prizes awarded to the winners.
