Community Voices Concerns Over Power and Road Issues

HAFLONG, April 13: The inhabitants of Harangajao, located in the Dima Hasao district, have raised alarms regarding ongoing problems with inconsistent electricity supply and deteriorating road conditions, calling on local authorities for prompt action.

Despite being a key settlement and the third-largest constituency by population in the district, Harangajao, which means 'slope of red soil', continues to face significant infrastructure challenges.

A local resident, speaking to reporters, expressed frustration with the performance of the power supply department. He claimed that officials from the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) frequently neglect their duties, leaving temporary staff to handle essential operations.

He noted that these temporary workers, vital for maintaining the electricity supply, often do not receive their salaries on time. “They are essential to the local power infrastructure. Without their efforts, the area is plunged into darkness,” he stated.

The erratic power supply has had a profound impact on daily life, particularly affecting students who are struggling to study during critical academic periods due to frequent outages.

In addition to power supply issues, residents have also pointed out the poor state of the road leading to the local market. This short stretch is in disrepair, with uneven surfaces and potholes causing significant inconvenience for travelers.

The community has urged the relevant departments to address these long-standing issues swiftly and to ensure better oversight of officials and infrastructure improvements in the region.
