Literary Community Supports Flood Victims in Upper Assam

Doy-Kao-Rang's Initiative Amidst Flood Crisis

Dibrugarh, Aug 2: In response to the severe flooding impacting Upper Assam, Doy-Kao-Rang, a socio-cultural and literary group, demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility by substituting a planned grand book launch with a modest ceremony aimed at supporting flood victims.

The organization decided to cancel its formal book release event and instead held a simple symbolic launch for 14 children's novels written by 13 authors at the Doy-Kao-Rang Street Library in Nagakhelia.

The novels unveiled included titles such as In Search of the Mystery of the Sanchipat Manuscript by Iman Bezbaruah, Fly High, Little Butterfly by Kalchum Bibi, A Bright New World by Kakoli Neog, and others, showcasing a diverse range of stories for young readers.

Local children and young readers, including Neeraj, Rit Awahan, Bhaskar, Dimple, Nayanmoni, and Mayukh, participated in the symbolic unveiling of the books. The formal release was initially set for July 25 in Dibrugarh but was postponed due to the ongoing flood crisis.

Despite many authors being unable to attend, children's writers from across Assam collectively raised Rs 10,000 for flood relief through the 'Jatra' WhatsApp group, emphasizing the literary community's dedication to social responsibility alongside their creative endeavors.

Tunujyoti Gogoi, director of Doy-Kao-Rang, stated that writers have a duty that extends beyond their literary work during times of crisis. He emphasized that supporting those in distress is a moral obligation for every writer. He also noted that the 14 novels were the result of a children's literature workshop aimed at fostering creative writing among young readers.

The event was attended by regular patrons of the Doy-Kao-Rang Street Library and several notable residents from the Mohanaghat area, as reported in a release.
